Chess and strategy camp

Founded by Tim and Tessa

Mokum Meesters was founded by Tim and Tessa, two parents who are looking for fun summer camps for their children each time the season arrives. While Amsterdam has a wide variety of options, they could not find a camp centered around the increasingly popular sport of chess, which sparked the creation of Mokum Meesters.

Together with AanZet, they present the first chess camp for children in Amsterdam and surroundings. AanZet consists of a group of passionate teachers who have been offering chess and programming lessons for years at more than 100 schools in Amsterdam and other cities.

Programme

Five days of chess, play and growth

Each day focuses on a new chess theme. We practice with examples, puzzles and short games, so that both beginners and children with some experience can join in. It is not just about winning, but above all about teamwork, self-confidence and fun.

Day 1

Development

Developing pieces quickly, controlling the center and castling safely.

Day 2

Attacking

Practicing double attacks, pins and discovered attacks with examples.

Day 3

Defending

Protecting pieces, escaping check and reducing danger.

Day 4

Puzzles

Checkmate in 1, 2 or 3 moves, puzzle competitions and making puzzles.

Day 5

Tournament

A festive closing event with games, prizes and certificates.

The location

Bilderdijkpark, Amsterdam-West

The community center is located in the green Bilderdijkpark: a well-organized, neighborhood-oriented space with open areas, sports fields and a lively playground. Children can run, climb, explore and have fun together in an area that is easily closed off.

The community center is also used by the chess club Amsterdam-West, so the chess vibes are already there.
